Information about the great American novelist Richard Powers:

The Gold Bug Variations Cover Art

This is the cover painting for one of our favorite books, "The Gold Bug Variations," by American novelist Richard Powers. The painting is by Honi Werner. Powers is also the author of "Three Farmers On Their Way To A Dance," "Prisoner's Dilemma," "Operation Wandering Soul," "Galatea 2.2," "Gain," "Plowing The Dark,""The Time of Our Singing," and "The Echo Maker," which won The National Book Award for Fiction in 2006. Each one is a treasure that will repay the investment of time and attention many times over.

Click
here if you would like to hear Powers read a brief excerpt from "Gain." (You will need RealPlayer to hear the reading).

Click here if you would like to read an engrossing interview with Powers.

Powers is a MacArthur Fellow and probably the least well known great writer working in the U.S. For a fascinating interview with the normally press-shy Powers, check out this article in Salon, the best publication on (and one of the best off) the web.

There is a comprehensive and fascinating Powers Bibliography available on line.

"Three Farmers" was inspired by the photography of August Sander. Here's an example of Sander's work:
